The Girls Varsity Soccer Team was supposed to start the District Playoffs against the Lake Orion Dragons on Tuesday evening this week. A scheduling snafu sent the Dragons home in the sweltering heat, and they returned Wednesday evening to play the game. The temperatures dropped a bit and there was a slight risk of showers, but the girls played a well fought game against a tough Orion team.

Late in the first half, Meike Ingles drove a shot to the Dragon Keepers right side, and found the back of the net. The Eagles took that 1-0 lead into halftime, and hoped the wind at their backs the second half would help them. Unfortunately, it was the Dragons that scored with just over 9 minutes left in the game to tie it at one apiece. Would we have an overtime battle the first game of the playoffs?

Lauren DeBeau says no, as she received a pass then headed up the left side of the field and made a couple moves to free herself up, then deliver the dagger that would end the Dragon’s 2018 playoff run. DeBeau’s goal came with just 9 seconds left in the game, and avoided an overtime session.

With the win, the Lady Eagles advance to the second round of Districts tomorrow (Thursday evening) at Rochester High School where they’ll play Host Rochester at 5:00p.m.

THIS is where the excitement begins! Come on out and watch the girls and cheer them through the playoffs!!!
